What is Dholera SIR in Gujarat?
In India, about six percent of total geographical area is barren or wasteland which in turn mainly not used for growing crops.
Dholera is a town in Ahmedabad
district. It is an ancient port city in gulf of khambhat at a distance of 30 km
from Dhandhuka city of ‘textile hub of India’, which in turn is the seventh
most populous district in India. Dholera SIR is largely a saline land. It is
close to GIFT (Gujarat International Finance Tec-city).
Dholera SIR (Special Investment Region) encompasses an area of 920 square kilometers in which 567.32 sq. km are developable land. There are 11 Special Investment Region in Gujarat and Dholera SIR is one of them.
Dholera Smart City has a lot of uniqueness which beats all other Indian cities, whether it is Bangalore, Hyderabad, business capital Mumbai or political capital New Delhi. Also, as a tag line, Dholera is ideally located and widely connected town.
Dholera City is India’s first Greenfield
smart industrial city in Gujarat is ready to take off. It is being developed
from scratch as a smart city. Dholera SIR is now under ambitious multi-billion
dollar UPA government ‘project, Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). The
action plan of DMIC is to set hundred new smart cities in India. This project
has been inspired by Japan’s Tokyo-Osaka Industrial corridor. It was conceptualized
by UPA government in 2007 with hope that it will contribute twenty five percent
of India’s GDP.
Dholera SIR Project shall be a
home to millions of people in search for affordable housing and quality of
living, as well as thousands of companies, domestic and foreign, looking for a
place to establish and expand their business.
Dholera SIR Shot into fame in
2009 after the then chief minister of Gujarat, Mr. Narendra Modiji announced
SIR for Dholera and vowed to develop a world class greenfield city in Dholera.
With a total footprint of over 920 sq. km, Dholera is the biggest of the eight smart industrial cities being developed in the first phase of US $100bn DMIC project.
According to Forbes, Dholera SIR
is in the top twelve fastest growing cities in the world and the only city in
India.
Major investors are Mahindra and
Mahindra (M&M), Zydus, IBM, Cisco, Hitachi, Mitsubishi etc.
Geographical significance of
Dholera put it on cosign of vantage for development works.
Total population of twenty two
villages is not more than thirty eight thousand, availability of non-fertile
land in huge amount.
Means, there is no public
retaliation against development. Also, it has 10 lane Express Highway. Better
connectivity already available.
Investing in smart city Dholera, the
fastest growing city of India, is a golden opportunity. In upcoming time it
will have world class infrastructure and connectivity within and outside. It is
good for business as well as luxurious life style.
Dholera was notified under the
National Manufacturing Policy and obtained environmental clearance in August
2014.
Dholera SIR will be two times
bigger than Delhi and six times bigger than global financial hub and China’s
biggest city, Shanghai.
The Dholera SIR was accorded
environmental clearance by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate
Change on 19 September 2014.
Dholera immediate city
development area of nearly 5600 acre is expected to be operational by 2019, while
the entire city is fully developed by 2040.
In 2015 NDA government approved
Rs.2784 crore worth of trunk infrastructure for Dholera SIR. The trunk
infrastructure is created within 22.5 sq. km ‘Activation area’ of the Dholera SIR
located on the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor. A Greenfield Dholera International
Airport is also developing at a distance of 20 km from Dholera SIR.
Some Chinese firms have promised
to invest huge amount of Rs.21400 crore at Dholera SIR in Gujarat in the next
three years. Among the projects in which it will invest include an electrical
battery plant and Metrorail coach factory.
